CompactDry EC - E. coli and coliform

CompactDry EC is a dehydrated medium plate used to detect E. coli and coliform bacteria in food and beverages.

The presence of coliform bacteria is an indicator of faecal contamination and possible presence of enteric pathogens in water, seafood, dairy and other foods.

Monitoring and identification of E. coli and coliforms is used at each step of the food production process as a quality control parameter.

CompactDry EC is a ready-to-use plate enabling easy culture and enumeration of E. coli and coliform in solid food stuff (homogenized with buffer solution), water/liquid samples and swab based environmental testing for surfaces and production areas.

The dehydrated selective media contains two different chromogenic enzyme substrates: Magenta-Gal and X-Gluc. E. coli form blue to blue purple colonies whereas coliforms form red colonies. Red and blue colonies counted together provides the total coliform count.

Incubation
Time: 24+/- 2 hours
Temperature: 37+/- 1°C (MicroVal/NordVal) and 35+/- 2°C (AOAC)

Interpretation
E. coli: Blue/ Blue purple colonies
Coliform: Total number of both red and blue colonies

Interpretatie van de CompactDry EC

De media heeft 2 verschillende chromogene enzymsubstraten:

• Blauw/Blauwpaarsachtig: E.coli vormt blauwe koloniën
• Rood en blauw: Totaal aantal van rode en blauwe koloniën

Hoe gebruik je de CompactDry EC?

1. Verwijder de deksel
2. Dispenseer 1 mL van de sample in het midden van de CompactDry plaat
3. Het monster diffundeert passief en gelijkmatig over het gedehydrateerde mediavel, waardoor het droge medium binnen enkele seconden weer in een gel verandert
4. Plaats de deksel weer op de plaat
5. Incubeer de plaat op de juiste temperatuur voor de juiste tijd.
6. Na de incubatieperiode, tel de hoeveelheid kolonies.
