Ethanol (triviale naam ethylalcohol), in het lab dikwijls afgekort als EtOH, is de bekendste alcohol, aangezien het een vaak gebruikt oplosmiddel is en het de alcohol is die in alcoholische dranken zit. In het dagelijkse spraakgebruik heet ethanol simpelweg alcohol.
